MANCHESTER UNITED have been told to cough up £40million if they want to sign Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio.

That is according to the Daily Star, who claim Manchester United are leading the race to sign the 21-year-old attacking midfielder.
Asensio is currently way down the pecking order at Real Madrid with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Isco ahead of him.

Real boss Zinedine Zidane rates the Spaniard highly and slapped the £40m price tag on him in a bid to ward off interest from other clubs.
However, United are not alone in the race to sign Asensio with 20 other clubs across Europe also interested in securing his signature with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea included.
Asensio has scored six goals in 22 appearances for Real this season
The two-cap Spain international signed for Real from Mallorca in 2014 for just £3m.
