MANCHESTER UNITED opted against picking Luke Shaw for their FA Cup clash with Reading due to concerns over his fitness.

Shaw has been sidelined through injury since Manchester United thumped West Ham 4-1 in the EFL Cup at the end of November.
He missed all of their December games and was also absent from their win 2-0 win over the Hammers on January 2.
Many United fans were outraged that Jose Mourinho left Shaw out his squad for the FA Cup game against Reading.

But the Press Association claim that United made the decision in order to save him from more time out injured.
“Shaw has indeed been injured - issues only natural coming back from long-term injury. Expecting him back soon,” Chief football writer Simon Peach tweeted.
Luke Shaw has struggled with injuries since joining from Southampton in 2014
United fans’ frustrations with Shaw are understandable given his popularity among the supporters.
The former Southampton star started last season in fine form under Louis van Gaal before sustaining a serious injury against PSV Eindhoven in September.
However, he is expected to be back soon and could feature when United go up against Hull in the EFL Cup on Tuesday (8pm).
