Manchester United star: Jose Mourinho was right to drop me... but we talk every day
MANCHESTER UNITED captain Wayne Rooney admits he deserved to be dropped to the bench.
Wayne Rooney - 5 things you need to know
Rooney came in for criticism after his performance in the 3-1 defeat to Watford last month and has started just one of United's subsequent four fixtures.
The England skipper kept his place for the 3-1 EFL Cup win over Northampton but was named on the bench for the league visits of Leicester and Stoke, as well as the 1-0 defeat of Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.
But the 30-year-old says he understands Jose Mourinho's decision to drop him from the starting line-up, and is prepared to wait for his chance to prove his worth.
"[Mourinho and I] chat every day. I've said before, I knew the Watford game I didn't play well," Rooney said.
"I didn't deserve to play the next game, I understood that, and the team have done well, so I have to bide my time and take my chance.

"My career will be determined on what we won as a team. I am not a player who is happy to not to win as a team but to get individual trophies.
"I have never been that sort of player. I am proud of the trophies we have won as a team. That is the way I am now. I want to play football. I love football, whether it is scoring or not."
