Arsene Wenger responds to Lyon statement on Alexandre Lacazette: Reveals transfer policy
ARSENE WENGER insists his policy is to remain quiet on transfers after Lyon released a statement regarding Arsenal's pursuit of striker Alexandre Lacazette.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal are in search of a goalscorer after failing to convince Jamie Vardy to ditch Leicester for north London earlier this summer.
Lyon confirmed yesterday that the Gunners' £29.3million bid for Lacazette has been turned down.
Their statement read: “The truth is that Arsenal made a formal offer of €35m (£29.3m) to which Lyon have not responded for this one reason: Lyon will keep Lacazette, who is irreplaceable and one of the leading players in Bruno Genesio’s squad.”
As for Lacazette, Arsenal's hopes of signing the striker appear distant after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas ruled out a sale.
”Alexandre is irreplaceable. It would be a professional mistake to sell him," Aulas said.
“For me, he will score more goals than Cavani this season and I imagine him doing incredible things in the Champions League.
“For all these reasons, I cannot imagine him leaving. I think he wants to realise a big season with Lyon. Alexandre will be at Lyonnais.”
