AS claim Real want to sign Andre Gomes but won't pay Valencia's demands
Real are frontrunners to sign Portugal international Gomes ahead of suitors Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona.
The Euro 2016 winner only joined Valencia from Benfica last summer but his performances in La Liga have caught the eyes of scouts.
And Spanish newspaper AS claim Real are determined to secure a deal for Gomes but are struggling to raise the funds to meet Valencia's demands.
As for Chelsea, manager Antonio Conte is also seeking midfield reinforcements and talk of a move for Roma's Radja Nainggolan has cooled in recent weeks.
Chelsea signed Leicester's N'Golo Kante in a £32m deal on Saturday and have the funds to match United's spending power should a bidding war for Gomes ensue.
Gomes started four games for Portugal during their successful Euro 2016 campaign this summer but lost his place for the final in Paris against France.
