The Serie A side could look to make a quick profit on Rudiger, with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte reportedly lining up a £16m bd for the Germany international.
A club statement read: "AS Roma has today activated a clause to buy defender Antonio Rudiger fromVfB Stuttgart on a permanent basis for a fee of €9m (£6.8m).
"The agreement also includes an additional payment of €500,000 (£380k) depending on whether Rudiger triggers specific sporting clauses. Rudiger’s contract expires on 30 June 2020."
He tweeted: "Lichtsteiner yes to Conte on Saturday. He could join Chelsea when Dani Alves will be official to Juventus. €11mln the price, 3 years deal."

That is according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim the 28-year-old has turned down the chance to join Chelsea in the hope new United manager Jose Mourinho shows an interest.
