Tottenham take lead in £22.8m forward race (Jose Mourinho wanted him at Man Utd)
TOTTENHAM have become favourites to sign Franco Vazquez this summer, according to reports.
Vazquez is said to have been tracked by Man United but Tottenham are favourites
Vazquez arrived at Palermo in 2011 from Argentinian club Belgrano in a deal worth a reported £3million.
Despite having played nearly 100 games of top-flight football in Argentina, it took him six months to make his debut and he spent much of the rest of his first season coming off the bench.
Euro 2016 stars Tottenham should sign
The Italian did not in fact break into the first team on a permanent basis until Palermo returned to Serie A in 2014 and that season he scored 10 times in 37 league games.
And now according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Spurs are the second Premier League club this season to consider a bid for the 27-year-old.
Reports in January stated that Jose Mourinho had been tracking Vazquez and was keen to bring him in at Manchester United if he were given the job at Old Trafford.
And while United have today unveiled Mourinho as their new manager, it is not clear whether he will follow through on his interest.
Even if he does, Spurs are said to be the most likely English club to sign him but even they will face competition from Fiorentina who reportedly believe he will fit perfectly into Paulo Sousa's unusual 3-4-2-1 system.
But either side will have to fork out hefty fee, with Palermo said to be wanting to net as much as £22.8m from the sale.
