Chelsea reportedly want to sign Roma's Kostas Manolas

Sky Sport Italia claim the Blues had a firm offer for Koulibaly, 24, rejected by the Serie A club.

Incoming manager Antonio Conte had requested club bosses move for Senegal international Koulibaly, only to be told the deal couldn't happen.

And reports claim Chelsea have now moved on to Conte's second defensive choice.

Roma do not want to sell their star man - bought two years ago from Olympiakos - but may struggle to beat away Chelsea's financial muscle.

The Blues are also said to be keen on signing and Miralem Pjanic, although sporting director Walter Sabatini has persistently denied those sales will happen.
