Roy Keane's reaction to an England goal at Euro 2024 spoke volumes about his stance on the Three Lions. The Republic of Ireland are gearing up to host England at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday for their Nations League opener, with the added twist of former Irish midfielder Lee Carsley taking charge of his first game as interim England boss.

The clash between the two sides will be shown on ITV and there will be no doubts about leading pundit Keane's allegiance. Despite spending his summer in debates about the Three Lions at Euro 2024, Keane appeared less than thrilled at the thought of England nabbing an elusive second major trophy.

The former Ireland captain was completely unmoved by Jude Bellingham's dramatic equaliser against Slovakia in the last 16. As co-pundits Ian Wright and Gary Neville erupted in celebration over Bellingham's bicycle kick, Keane remained distinctively unmoved, staring away with his arms crossed.

Keane's poker-faced moment quickly went viral, prompting social media to buzz with fan reactions. As reported by the Mirror, one fan quipped: "Roy Keane: 'Why you celebrate? It's their job isn't it? 'Legend!" A second supporter chimed in: "I knew Roy Keane wouldn't celebrate." While a third added: "Look at Roy Keane hahahaahha classic and I love it."

Keane, who earned 67 caps for Ireland during his playing career, had an infamous fallout with the FAI and manager Mick McCarthy at the 2002 World Cup. He later returned to the national team as assistant coach to Martin O'Neill from 2013 to 2018.

The 53-year-old started his playing career at Irish side Cobh Ramblers before spending 15 years in English football, winning seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League with Manchester United. Since retiring, Keane has brought his no-nonsense approach to punditry - even accusing England fans of "arrogance" this summer.

After Gareth Southgate's side had advanced to the semi-finals, Keane questioned the high expectations surrounding the team. "You talk about England not having won anything for 30, 40 years, that's not on this group of players. Focus on winning the game of football and history will take care of itself," he told ITV.

"When you talk about the weight of the jersey, I think there's a bit of arrogance that comes with that. The consequences of a mistake, that is part of top-level sport, you have to deal with that and over the years maybe they haven't done that well enough."

Keane responded to Wright's argument about the talent in the England squad being the reason for the pressure, stating: "We've been hearing that every tournament, for 30-50 years. To say you've had players to win every tournament over the last 30 years, I don't agree with that."
