“I received a phone call from Mourinho and that changed everything,” he told Egyptian television channel MBC Masr.
“He explained the situation to me and told me that he needed me at Chelsea. That was one of the main reasons why I joined Chelsea.
"Mourinho told me that he thought I was a good player and that he wanted me to pick Chelsea."
The Egypt international managed just 13 league appearances for the Blues as he was shipped out to Fiorentina before he completed a permanent move to Roma last summer.
But Salah has praised his short time working under Mourinho and admits he would be keen to work with him again.
“Mourinho is a genius, he taught me so much," said the Egyptian.
So if Salah wants a reunion with Mourinho, Old Trafford may be the place he has to go to get one.
