Liverpool star Emre Can: What I think of Steven Gerrard comparison
LIVERPOOL midfielder Emre Can has played down comparisons with Steven Gerrard.
Emre Can has played down comparisons likening him to Steven Gerrard
The 22-year-old, who is currently suspended for the next two Premier League games, moved to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014.
And after playing as part of a defensive three last term, Can has developed into a key midfielder in his first six months under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
His former captain Gerrard hailed him as a 'Rolls Royce' player last season, but the Germany international has played down comparisons linking him with the LA Galaxy star.
And Can has instead set his sights on becoming a 'world-class' midfielder in his own right.
“This was more than a great honour for me [being hailed as a Rolls Royce player], Gerrard is such a down to earth person and such a great footballer,” he told German website Sport1.
“From him I can learn so much, it makes me proud when [he says] something like that.

“But with all due respect, I am also unlike Gerrard.
“I will go my way as Emre Can, I am far from where Gerrard was.
“I want to become a world-class, mature player – which still needs some work.”
