Leicester's Claudio Ranieri goes from 'Tinkerman' to 'Sausageman' as he earns odd nickname
CLAUDIO RANIERI has branded himself the ‘Sausageman’ after Leicester’s stunning season earned him an unusual accolade from a local butcher.
Claudio Ranieri's Leicester have won 18 out of 30 Premier League games this term
But the Foxes boss has told his players they need to turbo-charge their run-in to add the Premier League title to their growing list of off-beat honours.
Ranieri’s growing popularity took another bizarre twist this week when a Leicester shop began selling Ranieri sausages in tribute to the colourful Italian.
He is now challenging his table-topping players to produce even more, though, after previously setting a 79-point target.
“I think we need a little more,” said Ranieri, whose side travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
“We need something extra. We have to put a turbo behind us and push a lot.
“If we get 79 points I would be happy because I said 39 in the first part of the season and 40 in the second so we improve, so I would be happy.
“But if we can do something more I would be happier.”
W Archer and Son butchers in Leicester is selling the Ranieri sausage - branded as ‘fennel, garlic, chilli and a hint of Champions League.’
Ranieri laughed: “I am the Sausageman!
“It is a good sausage. If there is enough chilli, it is good.”
