Marouane Fellaini not banned for Liverpool clash despite elbow on Emre Can
MANCHESTER UNITED received a boost today with the news that Marouane Fellaini will not be banned for their Europa League second leg against Liverpool on Thursday.
Marouane Fellaini is free to face Liverpool on Thursday
United feared Fellaini would receive a retrospective punishment from UEFA after TV cameras caught him putting his elbow into Emre Can's face in an off the ball incident in last week's first leg at Anfield.
But the referee and his officials did not mention the incident in their report and having viewed TV footage UEFA have decided not to take disciplinary action.
A spokesman said today: "We inform you that the reports of the match officials did not include any mention of the alleged incident, therefore no disciplinary proceedings have been opened for this."
