Arsenal and Chelsea stunned as club reject huge £27m transfer offer
ARSENAL and Chelsea may back out of a move to sign Ousmane Dembele after Rennes rejected Barcelona's huge offer for the youngster, according to reports.
Ousmane Dembele has scored nine goals for Rennes this season
French newspaper L'Equipe last week claimed both London clubs were interested in the 18-year-old.
He has been dubbed 'the next Ronaldo' by FourFourTwo and has scored nine times in his debut season in Ligue 1.
Manchester City are also said to have tracked the winger.
His agent Badou Sambague last week told L'Equipe that a summer move would not be good for Dembele, despite interest from the Premier League and Spain.
“We want him to follow a logical progression and we intend for him to be at Rennes for a season and a half,” Sambague said.
“After that, we'll see what happens according to his evolution.”
It is not known if either Chelsea or Arsenal are willing to match Barca's opening bid for the player but the likelihood is is that they will seek cheaper alternatives this summer.
