Ryan Shawcross has been a part of Stoke's impressive season that's seen them rise to 11th
Last week Jones made reference to the Britannia Stadium club when discussing how he wanted England to approach matches.
Jones said: "Every time you attack there is a risk involved. If you want to play like the old Stoke City, then that's the safest way to play, isn't it? Just stick the ball in the air, chase hard and get everyone to clap."
Shawcross responded in the programme for yesterday's match with Everton, which Stoke lost 3-0.
He wrote: "I reckon he (Jones) should stick to talking about the sport he's paid to work in rather than dipping his toe in football."
Stoke were widely regarded as a long-ball team prior to the arrival in 2013 of manager Mark Hughes.
