The 19-year-old became the world's most expensive teenager when he signed for United on deadline day - a deal that raised a few eyebrows.
The initial fee for the striker was £36million with a view to increase to £58m with add-ons and various bonuses.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News the deal was not a rash one, as Giggs had recommended him as a player for United's future.
It's reported the Welshman had watched the Monaco player for a year and had compiled a full report on the youngster before the Red Devils swooped.
Louis van Gaal is believed to have been proactive in signing Martial in order to avoid a battle with Europe's elite clubs next season.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona were all reportedly interested in signing him.
