The Baggies have already signed forwards Salomon Rondon and Rickie Lambert this summer, while also knocking back a number of bids for last season's top goalscorer Saido Berahino.
But that hasn't stopped Albion being linked with a move for Austin, who QPR value at £15million following his 18 goals in the Premier League last term.
The 26-year-old has also attracted Chelsea, Everton, Leicester and Tottenham, who are all unwilling to meet the asking price considering he has less than a year left on his contract.
It’s all speculation
Dave Kemp
Asked about the Baggies' reported interest in Austin, Kemp told the Birmingham Mail: “It’s all speculation. Transfer window time is just a crazy time.
“Phones are going, this is going, that’s going, some of it is true, some of it not.
“Let’s just get to (transfer deadline day) on Tuesday and then I think everybody can calm down and we can get back to concentrating on the team and football in general.”
