Angel Di Maria is having a medical ahead of a £44million switch to the Parc des Princes.
Though Laurent Blanc is an admirer of the former England international, Carrick is thought to have turned down an offer to join the French giants.
Instead, the 33-year-old would rather fight for a first-team spot at Old Trafford.

But Costa fears it could prove to be a costly mistake, as he said: "Last season we had two top keepers. It’s important to have a keeper who you know is capable of pulling off a wonder save in the event of a defensive mistake.
"That’s the difference when you have a top-level keeper. It gives you that extra bit of confidence."

The Gunners have been linked with a £24m move for the Barcelona star.
And former Gunners midfielder Paul Merson believes Busquets is just what Arsene Wenger needs to win the title.
"Arsenal will not win the title with just Coquelin in the defensive midfield role," Merson said as quoted by The Metro.
"They’re talking about them putting in a bid for Busquets – that would be a massive signing."
