Edin Dzeko response pushes Roma to step up chase for Newcastle forward target
ROMA will step up their pursuit of Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic after Edin Dzeko snubbed their advances in a move that could affect Newcastle's transfer activity.
The Serie A club are in search of strikers this summer and appeared to have settled on Dzeko as a first choice, with midfielder Miralem Pjanic claiming earlier this week that a deal would go ahead.
But the agent of Manchester City front man Dzeko has strongly denied any discussions with Roma, insisting the Bosnia international will remain at the two-time Premier League champions next season.
"I was frankly surprised by Pjanic's comments, unless he knows something that I don't," Irfan Redzepagic told Italian radio station Rete Sport.
"I have had no contact with Roma, nor am I aware of any talks between the two clubs.
"It's not a financial issue, he simply doesn't want to leave the Citizens."

New Magpies manager Steve McClaren is seeking forward recruits, with 20-year-old Mitrovic - who scored 23 goals for Anderlecht last season - on his list.
Papiss Cisse's St James' Park future is not safe as Trabzonspor eye a bid for the 30-year-old, meaning Mitrovic's acquisition is of increasing importance to the club.
However, Roma can offer the Serbia international Champions League football next season, something that Newcastle have been mocked for not being able to do this summer.
