Dider Drogba could start for Chelsea against Schalke in midweek[GETTY]
Drogba's final act before leaving Chelsea two years ago was to score the winning penalty in the 2011/12 final.
The Ivorian played against Chelsea for Galatasaray last season and failed to impress at Stamford Bridge.
But Mourinho believes that, alongside Diego Costa and Loic Remy, Drogba will prove just as difficult as he once was for European defenders to handle.
"Now we have a guy like Didier who is a box expert, a kind of striker that the box is his natural habitat," Mourinho said.
"Obviously the best of the three in the air. Obviously.
"Remy is very fast, he attacks spaces. He can play even from the sides like he does for France, coming in from the right or, with (Newcastle boss Alan) Pardew, from the left.
"Diego is a player that we were chasing for about a year, waiting to get him, and we think he's a player very adapted to the style of play we want to implement in the team."
