The Gunners have reportedly been sounded out about the possibility of signing ex-Spurs striker Defoe.
According to the Telegraph, Arsene Wenger has been offered Defoe on loan until January.
Defoe is believed to be in England ready to seal a surprise return to the Premier League.
The 31-year-old left Spurs for MLS outfit Toronto FC last March, but wants out already.
QPR remain the favourites to land Defoe but Newcastle, Hull and Leicester are all keen.
Wenger insists he will not rush into the transfer market for a new striker following Olivier Giroud's ankle injury, despite fans clamouring for a replacement to be signed.
