Cuadrado future in doubt as Man Utd follow up Di Maria capture with £40m Arturo Vidal bid
MANCHESTER UNITED'S summer-long pursuit of Fiorentina star Juan Cuadrado looks to have ended in failure after Arturo Vidal emerged as Louis Van Gaal's most coveted target.
Italian reports claim Manchester United's imminent £40m offer for Juventus midfielder Vidal, will allow Fiorentina to retain Cuadrado for at least another season.
The news is a welcome relief for the Serie A side who will be delighted a deal for the midfield dynamo failed to materialise.
Arturo Vidal Player Profile
Fiorentina had resigned themselves to losing the 26-year-old to either United or Catalan giants Barcelona for an astronomical £40m fee after the conclusion of the World Cup.
United will instead focus their energies on bolstering their fragile defensive options with a £40m offer for Vidal.
The Chilean has been described as the 'best player in the world' with extremely advanced defensive capabilities, more than capable of protecting United's back-four.
But having almost sealed a £59.7m deal for Angel Di Maria, the 13-time Premier League champions will have to flex their financial muscles to prove they are still a force to be reckoned with.
