A new chapter in Frank Lampard's career beckons[GETTY]
Lampard, who is the club's all-time leading scorer with 209 goals, will be joining MLS outfit New York City on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old has been informed by Mourinho that he's welcome to come back to Chelsea at any point and in any capacity he so desires.
And Mourinho says he wouldn't mind Lampard taking over the reins at Stamford Bridge, should he so wish.
"I do not think he is leaving,’ Mourinho told ITV during a United Nations ambassadorial visit to Ivory Coast.

"I think he is just going for a ride somewhere and then he is coming back very, very soon because that’s what the owner wants, that’s what he [Lampard] wants – what everybody wants."
And when quizzed over whether Lampard could manage Chelsea, Mourinho added:
"Whatever he wants, whenever he wants. I repeat Mr Abramovich’s words – I will have him doing anything.
"The door is open for such a big guy in our club."
