Last week the player's agent, Ahmet Bulut, was quoted in the Dutch media as saying Turan had a firm offer from an English club.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for Turan but the consensus in Turkey is that United is the team in question.
Indeed, Turan's international teammate Burak Yilmaz was quoted in Turkish daily Hurriyet saying: "Manchester United made an offer for Arda.
"Last I heard the talks went well and he could be playing in England next season."
Yilmaz later took to Twitter to deny making the comments, and it seems that Bulut has also revised his position.

There are several reports in the press saying we've made contact with English clubs but these are not true.

He told Turkish sports channel NTVSpor: "There are several reports in the press saying we've made contact with English clubs but these are not true."
And even Turan himself appears to be in the dark over the speculation.
He said: "I'm not the right person to speak about this.
"We won the league and I'm still celebrating our achievements this season."
It now remains to be seen whether there is any truth at all to talks between United and Turan, or whether Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are still in the race to sign the player.
