Felix Magath promises to lead Fulham back to the big time
FELIX MAGATH has promised Fulham fans he won't beat a hasty retreat despite seeing the club drop down to the Championship.
The Cottagers were hammered 4-1 by Stoke at the Britannia yesterday afternoon, and their fate was sealed thanks to Sunderland's heroic 1-0 display over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Magath, who is Fulham's third manager this season after Martin Jol and Rene Meulensteen were dismissed for poor results, was adamant that his side would beat the drop when he joined in February.
But now that relegation has become a reality at Craven Cottage, the German has been quick to appease supporters and vow his loyalty to the west London outfit.
We have to change something, I want to have success with Fulham in the next years
He said: "I don't think to do anything else except to stay at Fulham and build up a new team - that was the idea when I came here.
"It is clear we have to change something, I want to have success with Fulham in the next years. I will talk about the situation with the owner and we will start to come back.
"You saw no fighting spirit and therefore I think they (the players) felt too much pressure.
"I apologise for not managing the situation because I was convinced we would stay in the league but we are relegated."
