United have fallen out of title contention under Moyes and are currently seventh in the Premier League.
But ahead of their derby clash with City, Charlton has backed the former Everton boss as the right man for the job.
"It doesn't mean we are going to change everything," Charlton said. "I'm absolutely certain that we picked the right man.
"We are trying our best to make sure that we can beat them.

"If we can, it will be a tremendous stride because we've had a bit of criticism leading up to this, but I never doubt Manchester United."
Charlton will not be in attendance at Old Trafford as he is in Malaysia for the Laureus World Sports Award.
And the former England great has admitted that might not be such a bad thing.
"I always try to keep myself together when I'm in the directors' box, but sometimes I have to get on my feet," he added. "That is one of these occasions."
