Liverpool fail to land Ukrainian star Yevhen Konoplyanka
LIVERPOOL have failed in their attempts to sign winger Yevhen Konoplyanka from Ukrainian side FC Dnipro.
The deal had been expected to pass well before the deadline window slammed shut after Liverpool triggered a £15million buyout clause in his contract.
The highly rated playmaker had also passed a medical and agreed personal terms with Brendan Rodgers' side only to be denied by Dnipro's multi-billionaire owner Ihor Kolomoyskyi who failed to sign the necessary paperwork.
The signing of a midfielder was clearly a top priority for Rodgers who saw initial target Mohamed Salah opt for a move to Stamford Bridge a week ago.
However, the Northern-Irishman remains optimistic about his sides Champions League ambitions, he said: "If you look at the position that we're in with 15 games to go, we have shown consistently that we have the squad to compete.
"If we can keep those players fit, and maximise the availability for the rest of the season, we can have a great chance to have a really good finish."
Liverpool face Pepe Mel's West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.
