Manchester United handed setback in pursuit of Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay
EZEQUIEL GARAY insists that he is happy playing his football at Benfica, despite strong interest from Premier League champions Manchester United
Sir Alex Ferguson was close to signing the Argentina international in the summer, but the deal broke down once David Moyes took over as manager.
But due to Rio Ferdinand's inconsistent form and Nemanja Vidic's recurring injury worries, there were suggestions that Moyes would go back in for him in the January transfer window.
However, the centre-back has revealed that he is enjoying playing for the Primeira Liga outfit, who are still on to progress through the Champions League group stages, which could deter him from a move.
"I have learned a lot since I came to Benfica and I am very happy at the club," Garay said in an interview with Benfica TV.
The defender has established himself as a mainstay in the Argentine starting line-up, and consistent domestic football will keep Garay's hopes of featuring in next year's World Cup in Brazil.
"We qualified and it will be my first World Cup if I get called up so I'm really excited," he added.
