Tim Krul’s day as Tottenham's Hugo Lloris sits out defeat to Newcastle
HUGO LLORIS was sidelined for Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat by Newcastle after tests revealed he was still suffering the after-effects of his collision with Romelu Lukaku six days after he was declared fit to play.
Instead, it was visiting keeper Tim Krul, who took the limelight, making 14 saves in a phenomenal display he described as “the highlight of my career”.
A 25-minute computer analysis of memory, processing speed and reaction time on Saturday showed Lloris was still suffering from the blow.
After the game Andre Villas-Boas refused to accept he or the club had done anything wrong and was adamant he would do the same again, despite the risk to Lloris’s health.
“The medical department felt it was a bit too soon,” he said.
“If the game was tomorrow he would have played. I expect Hugo to play for France this week.
“I had to stick to what they said. They decided the player wasn’t good enough and we’ve gone on from there, because we respect it.”
