EXCLUSIVE: Mesut Ozil's transformed Arsenal but they needed Luis Suarez says Robbie Savage
ARSENAL record-signing Mesut Ozil has 'transformed' the feeling at the Emirates according to Robbie Savage, although he thinks the Gunners should have signed Liverpool's Luis Suarez.
Ozil joined the Gunners on deadline day for a club record fee of £42.5million, after a frustrating summer in the transfer market.
Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini joined on free transfers, but Arsene Wenger missed out on Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez and Yohan Cabaye before landing the German international.
And former Wales international Savage believes the capture of Ozil has inspired the Arsenal support, although the 38-year-old is surprised no cover for striker Olivier Giroud was secured.
"There was a lot of unrest at Arsenal this summer, but the signing of Ozil has completely transformed that," said Savage.
"Along with Ramsey who has been brilliant, and Giroud with his goals.
"But they needed to bring in cover for Giroud, I think all Arsenal fans would have been happy with Suarez and Higuain coming in.
Giroud admitted he was excited at the prospect of lining up alongside Suarez, but was not so enthused with speculation over Higuain.
But Savage argues that either player would have improved the North London outfit, and that the 26-year-old needs to fight for his place.
"The best players in the world need competition," he said.
