Harry Kane believes he will be fit to play for Bayern Munich against Aston Villa in the Champions League despite suffering a foot injury on Saturday. The striker hobbled off during the 1-1 draw with Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

Kane seemed in discomfort when he was substituted in the 86th minute following a collision with Amine Adli. Fears were raised that the 31-year-old would not be fit to play in the European clash with Villa on Wednesday.

However, the England captain believes he will be okay and has not ruled himself out of featuring.

“It’s painful, but I think it’s ok. We’ll check the foot again tomorrow,” Kane said. Asked if he will play against Villa, Kane responded: “I assume I’ll be able to play.”

Villa might have been hoping to not come up against the in-form Kane. He has already scored 10 goals in only seven appearances across all competitions this season.

Kane scored four times during the Champions League matchweek one victory over Dinamo Zagreb, which Vincent Kompany's side won 9-2. Bayern have gone goal-crazy this season, scoring four or more in four of their matches this season, including 5-0 and 6-1 victories in the Bundesliga.

Asked if he believed Kane’s injury was serious, Kompany responded: "Hopefully not. I'm not a doctor and it's much too early. I know something happened, but I hope he's ready for Wednesday."

However, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl seemed less upbeat about Kane’s availability for the visit to Villa Park. He admitted: "When Harry leaves the field means something because he's pretty tough.

"[The incident] doesn't look good, but we hope he's made strong out of good English wood and nothing's broken."

Saturday’s draw with Leverkusen was the first time Bayern had dropped points in their first five Bundesliga matches. Aleksandar Pavlovic’s stunning volley cancelled out Robert Andrich’s opening goal.

Bayern were surprisingly beaten to the German top-flight title by Leverkusen last season. Xabi Alonso’s side completed an unbeaten domestic campaign, and their only defeat came in the final of the Europa League.

"You have to sacrifice a lot against Bayern. We had a few problems. We played very seriously and are happy with the point," Alonso reflected on Saturday’s draw.

"We don't usually play like that, but maybe it was better today. We've had some defensive problems until today. Now we need a bit of balance on and off the ball.

“It was very tough today. The whole team did very well. We hardly had a chance to breathe. But I'm very proud of my players.”
