Southend edge out Leyton Orient to make Wembley trip
BEN REEVES struck a 90th-minute equaliser to send Southend to Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at the expense of Leyton Orient.
A 2-2 draw in last night’s Southern Area final second leg at Roots Hall meant the Shrimpers went through courtesy of their 1-0 win in the first game.
Shaun Batt’s opener for Orient was cancelled out by Barry Corr before David Mooney’s header restored overall parity in the 78th minute.
In the Northern Area final, Crewe conceded two late goals at home to Coventry but went through due to a 3-0 first-leg win.
Mark Ellis’s own-goal and Leon Clarke’s effort made it 2-0 on the night.
