Manchester United have reportedly met with the representatives of transfer target Ederson, with his agents granting the club permission to pursue a deal. The midfielder has been strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford over recent weeks. United face competition to sign Ederson, with Sky Sports Switzerland reporting that the 'most concrete' interest is arriving from Italy.

The 26-year-old is anticipated to depart Atalanta this summer, having excelled in Serie A. The report adds that United are also among the clubs monitoring the midfielder closely and have held discussions with his representatives. Ederson is said to 'dream' of a switch to the Premier League this summer.

While the meetings have occurred, the player is reportedly not a 'top priority' for United. The club are eager to overhaul their midfield options this summer with the likes of Elliott Anderson and Adam Wharton on their transfer wishlist.

Manchester City appear to be leading the chase for Nottingham Forest's Anderson in a setback to United. The Red Devils are reported to be targeting three new central midfielders for a combined fee of £150million.

Casemiro has confirmed his departure from Old Trafford at the conclusion of the season, with Manuel Ugarte also anticipated to secure a move elsewhere. Any fresh arrivals would need to work effectively alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in the United setup.

United are also pursuing Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. He, however, appears destined for Atletico Madrid, which could pave the way for United to launch their bid for Ederson.

The Brazilian has featured in 40 matches across all competitions for Atalanta this season, netting three goals and registering two assists. He enters the final year of his contract next summer and is valued at approximately £40m.

The midfielder was strongly linked with a switch to Atletico Madrid last summer, but discussions over a potential deal collapsed and he remained with Atalanta.

Addressing speculation surrounding the player this week, Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi acknowledged interest, but dismissed any formal bids. "We have no official offers, only interest from other teams," he told Tuttomercatoweb.

He added: "I think it's unlikely that teams will make a move before the end of the season. Interest in our players is normal, but we'll evaluate them at the right time with great serenity and calm."
