Scott McTominay's telling opinion as Darren Fletcher becomes Man Utd interim boss
Darren Fletcher has taken interim charge of Manchester United after Ruben Amorim was sacked on Monday.

Scott McTominay has hailed Darren Fletcher as a "breath of fresh air", hinting that he could be the perfect fit for Manchester United following Ruben Amorim's exit on Monday.
Fletcher has stepped into the driving seat following Amorim's sacking after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United. Post-match, the Portuguese manager made some fiery remarks about the need for everyone at the club "to do their job", comments which ultimately sealed his fate. As a result, Amorim was shown the door on Monday, with the club reluctantly admitting that it was time for a change.
Fletcher was unveiled as the interim boss ahead of Wednesday's clash with Burnley, adding to his varied experience at United. The ex-Premier League champion has served as both technical director and first-team coach since stepping away from professional football.
During his 13-year tenure in Manchester, Fletcher won numerous trophies, including five league titles and the UEFA Champions League. His impact on the current squad remains to be seen, but one player who thrived under his influence was Scott McTominay.
McTominay departed United in 2024 after a challenging final season under Erik ten Hag, having spent seven years at the club. He played under several managers, including Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag.
The Scotland international, now plying his trade with Napoli in Italy's Serie A, offered glowing tributes to his countryman following Fletcher's appointment as United's technical director in 2021.

Discussing the interim manager's proactive style, McTominay said: "Darren has been absolutely amazing whenever he's come in. He's been a breath of fresh air. All the lads have really taken to him.
"He was a proper player and is a proper football man. Michael Carrick, the manager, Mike Phelan, are all men who know the game inside out with vast experience of many different leagues.
"For myself, it's brilliant that I've got some of the best guys I could possibly wish for to help me with my game. I have to soak it in and maybe one day, be in a position like that and can say I was learning from them, and the cycle continues."
Such big praise from McTominay demonstrates the calibre of leadership Fletcher brings to the Old Trafford dressing room, albeit even if it is on a temporary basis.
