Harry Maguire signs new Man Utd contract and reveals reason behind U-turn
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has signed a new contract following his resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick.

Manchester United have confirmed that Harry Maguire has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal, drawing a line under uncertainty surrounding his future. Maguire, 33, had entered the final few months of his existing contract and appeared destined to depart as a free agent this summer.
However, the England international has now been handed fresh terms until June 2027 following his remarkable revival under interim boss Michael Carrick. United will also retain the option to extend his deal by a further year. Maguire explained: "Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.
"I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together."
"You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us."

A cornerstone of the side since Carrick's arrival in January, his impressive displays have helped the Red Devils climb to third in the Premier League table. Maguire has also earned a recall to the England squad and is firmly in the frame to feature at the World Cup.
The centre-back joined United from Leicester for a record-breaking £80million in 2019. Maguire was appointed club captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer within a year of his arrival, though he was subsequently replaced by Bruno Fernandes during Erik ten Hag's tenure in 2023.
Director of football Jason Wilcox added: "Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad. Harry, like everyone at the club, is completely determined to help Manchester United to achieve regular and sustained success."

Maguire remains one of the most commanding figures in United's squad and has guided them to two recent trophy victories, the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. Earlier this season, Carrick described the 33-year-old and his wealth of experience as 'invaluable'.
"Harry's an impressive character," Carrick said. "He's had a great career so far. Hopefully, there's a lot more to come. I think, even while he's been here, in the journey and the experiences that he's had, certainly since he's been here and with England as well, I think he's shown exactly what he is.
"Experience is massive. It's hard to put a price on how valuable that can be. Harry has gained an awful lot of experience with this club. Case (Casemiro) leaving is another one and we have to understand what that means."
Maguire is currently in Dublin alongside the rest of United's squad as part of a training camp, as they take advantage of a lengthy break without a fixture. Carrick's side return to action on Monday at home to Leeds, though Maguire remains suspended following his red card at Bournemouth on March 20.
