Man City make decision on 'relegation escape clauses' as £150m spree takes shape
Man City are preparing to spend following a very difficult time of late in the Premier League.
Manchester City are reportedly not underpinning their £150million attack on the transfer market with relegation escape clauses as a safety measure during their ongoing legal fight with the Premier League.
The Premier League champions face the possibility of being expelled from the top-flight via a massive points deduction if they are found guilty of any of the most serious of the 130 charges against them.
A judgement from an independent tribunal on the issue is anticipated in the spring following a 12-week hearing. City have continuously maintained their innocence throughout the saga.
They have also remained firm that it's business as usual at the Etihad - despite rumours they would need to provide guarantees to new signings or current players signing new contracts to protect against the worst-case scenario.
Mirror Football understands no such provisions have been implemented as the Blues have initiated a rebuild of Pep Guardiola’s waning squad by agreeing a £33.6million deal for Lens’ Uzbekistan international defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
Khusanov, 20, will be one of five potential arrivals during the January transfer window. Teenage Argentine playmaker Claudio Eccheverri has already joined ia deal that could eventually earn River Plate £21.75million, although he has been granted permission by City to play for his country in the upcoming South American Under-20 Championship.
City are also reportedly eyeing up a move for Eintracht Frankfurt's £60million-rated Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, and have been given a £42million price tag by Brazilian club Palmeiras for their young defender Vitor Reiss.
The Blues are also in the market for a midfielder to fill the void left by Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who is out for the season with a cruciate injury.
Atalanta's Ederson has emerged as a potential target, amid doubts over Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi's willingness to make a Premier League move after turning down Liverpool last summer.
Ex-Aston Villa player Douglas Luiz is also being considered for a loan move, although Juventus are said to be more interested in a permanent deal for the Brazilian.
