Marcus Rashford is said to be 'excited' at the idea of playing for Manchester United Michael Carrick. The England international had hoped to join Barcelona permanently but that move looks off the table and as such, he returned to United over the weekend ahead of the club's final part of pre-season in Dublin.
National team-mate Kobbie Mainoo also joined up with the squad while other Three Lions stars have returned to their respective clubs which includes Anthony Gordon starting his tenure at Barcelona. His permanent move from Newcastle United and Karim Adeyemi joining spelled the end for Rashford's hopes but Forren Torres joining Paris Saint-Germain could see those revived.
In the meantime, though his future remains uncertain, the 28-year-old will be preparing for the upcoming campaign at United and The Athletic have stated Rashford is understood to be excited at working with Carrick, who he played alongside on his debut for the club over 10 years ago.
Rashford is expected to play minimal minutes against either Leeds United or AC Milan this week having only recently begun his pre-season preparations, but may well feature in their final two warm-up matches before their competitive season begins against Hull City next Saturday.
United will be hoping to complete further signings before then, with the Express' sister-title football.london claiming they have been presented with the opportunity to acquire Myles Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal. The Gunners are targeting a new left-winger while United are pursuing a midfielder and left-back.
Consequently, a swap deal for those two players could prove ideal, with former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon suggesting it would be a shrewd move. He told BestBettingSites: "Would I swap them (Myles Lewis Skelly and Marcus Rashford)? You know what, I probably would. And that's nothing against Myles Lewis-Skelly; it's about giving him the freedom to go and expand his game elsewhere.
"With Marcus Rashford, he's a player who needs an arm around his shoulder, and Arteta would be great for him. Give him that love, give him the freedom to play on that left side, and yeah, I'd like to see him in an Arsenal shirt. I have my reservations about whether he's consistently a top-class player, but based on what Arsenal have in the squad now, he'd be a good addition."
A swap arrangement seems highly unlikely, but there remains no certainty Rashford will remain at Old Trafford, with The Mirror reporting he continues to seek an exit route. Discussions over his future are set to take place with Rashford preferring to revive his career elsewhere.
