Erik ten Hag backed to receive months to fix Man Utd crisis after bold INEOS agreement

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will give Erik ten Hag until at least January to improve Manchester United's results, according to former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan. However, Jordan doesn't believe the Dutchman will survive the winter after United's Premier League season continued the mediocre trend of the 2023/24 campaign.

Ten Hag has overseen just six wins in the club's last 21 league fixtures and one victory from their previous 10 outings in European competition.

United's results are somehow regressing from their worst-ever season in the Premier League era, picking up a record-low eight points after seven matches.

But Ten Hag appears safe for now amid a deafening silence in the aftermath of Tuesday's high-profile executive meeting in London.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer and United's entire team of football decision-makers under the INEOS banner were present.

And the lack of noise across the 48 hours after the summit implies that Ten Hag will be in the Old Trafford dugout for Brentford's visit on October 19.

Jordan would consider it a surprise if United dismissed Ten Hag during the international break due to the fact that INEOS' football structure is in its infancy.

"Yeah, [it would be a surprise if they sacked Ten Hag right now], absolutely. They've got a new management structure in place. It's hardly bedded in," Jordan told talkSPORT.

Chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth only started working for United in July after completing their respective gardening leaves.

Technical director Jason Wilcox was stationed earlier and had a significant say in determining Ten Hag's future in the summer alongside Sir Dave Brailsford.

Berrada and Ashworth confirmed they were in total agreement over the decision as recently as last month, though, so axing the Dutchman now would raise serious questions about the process.

That's why Jordan is convinced Ten Hag will remain United's manager in the coming weeks. However, he has suggested the outcome is inevitable and could come in the New Year.

He added: "You cannot expect Man United to have their worst season in the league and start this season in the same way.

"So [Ten Hag's] numbers are coming up now, in terms of his time will run its course. But I don't think it's now. My view was that he will be gone in January.

"Not because I've got any dog in the fight, not because I really care that much about Man United. But I think that, ultimately, he isn't going to get them where they need to go.

"Is he a bad manager? No. Is he a capable operator? Yes. Is he going to get Man United where they want to go? I doubt it.

"So, what is the point [of keeping him]? The thing is, have they got a suitable replacement? Is it Thomas Tuchel?

"Well, Thomas Tuchel is a bag of trouble. And, unless you are going to change his character, you're likely to get the same outcome with him."
