Outlander star joins cast of major Netflix show alongside Bridgerton hunk

An actress who starred in the hit time-travel drama Outlander has been confirmed to star in the upcoming third season of one of Netflix's biggest shows.

Annette Badland, famed for her roles as Mrs Fitz in Outlander and Babe Smith in EastEnders, has snagged an exciting part in Netflix's acclaimed series Heartstopper. The seasoned 74-year-old actress is set to grace our screens again when the show's third season drops this October.

Netflix's hit coming-of-age drama Heartstopper, adapted from Alice Oseman's popular novels, delves into the sweet romance between high school students Nick, played by Kit Connor, and Charlie, portrayed by Joe Locke.

Adding to the star-studded lineup, Netflix has confirmed that Bridgerton heartthrob Jonathan Bailey will be joining the cast as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous author who captures Charlie's adoration.

In a thrilling update this April, Netflix UK and Ireland announced: "It's not just Jonathan Bailey joining Heartstopper S3, we're also welcoming Hayley Atwell as Nick's Aunt Diane and Eddie Marsan as Charlie's therapist Geoff!" With fans on tenterhooks, the eagerly anticipated next instalment of Heartstopper is set to premiere on October 3.

Back in February, Annette dazzled at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, celebrating multiple nominations for her Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso, where she shines as Mae the Landlady, reports the Irish Star.

The star dazzled onlookers as she sparkled beside her fellow actors at the prestigious awards event, where they were nominated for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series award.

Although they did not clinch the prize, which was awarded to The Bear, Annette certainly left a lasting impression at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

Annette bewitched the crowd with her stunning ivory dress that gracefully swept the floor, adorned with gold detailing, courtesy of the renowned London-based fashion house Bombshell.

Her hair was elegantly decorated with intricate gold accessories that mimicked the appearance of tree branches complete with leaves, and she complemented her look with sophisticated drop earrings, a golden bangle, and a shimmering gold clutch bag.

Social media was abuzz with fans heaping accolades on her show-stopping red carpet ensemble, showering the actress with adulation. One admirer gushed: "You look amazing...what a lady."

Another chimed in with praise, exclaiming: "What a beauty!" The plaudits continued as words like "stunning", "beautiful", and "gorgeous" dominated the comments, and her gown was celebrated as "exquisite".

Outlander, the acclaimed historical drama series, is set against the backdrop of the Jacobite risings.

In Outlander, Annette portrays Mrs Fitz, the chief housekeeper at Castle Leoch, who confronts an unpredictable future following the clan system's collapse and the castle's destruction at the close of the first season.

Heartstopper season 3 is coming to Netflix on October 3, 2024.
