Tottenham are reportedly eyeing a move for Lecce star Patrick Dorgu, who has earned some rave reviews over the past 12 months.

Spurs splashed the cash over the summer to provide Ange Postecoglou with a squad that can push for the top four and, ultimately, silverware.

Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray and Timo Werner (loan) all arrived as part of their overhaul, though Tottenham already appear to have one eye on the upcoming transfer windows.

According to HITC, Spurs have joined the race to sign left-back Dorgu after an impressive 12 months in the Serie A with Lecce.

The 19-year-old recently made his international debut with Denmark and marked the occasion with a goal in a moment of magic which has put him on the radar of top clubs around Europe.

Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are all interested in Dorgu as well, and he was the subject of offers over the summer as well – though no club came close to reaching Lecce’s £29.5million valuation.

However, Dorgu’s price tag over the summer could look like a bargain when the 2024/25 campaign concludes if he continues to develop at such an exciting rate. The defender has drawn incredible praise over the course of last season, with Lecce head coach Luca Gotti comparing him to Gareth Bale – which will be music to the ears of Spurs supporters.

He said: “He seems to have great adaptability. He enjoys playing on the pitch. Important people from the football world are starting to call me to ask me what I see. (Bale) becomes a forward. He could have played as a full-back. This could happen with Dorgu.”

Signing Dorgu would be a major sign of intent from Tottenham given that they already have Destiny Udogie available as their left-back option, which could indicate that Spurs intend on helping the youngster discover his potential as a forward like Gotti believes that he can.

However, they will need to fend off interest from Chelsea if they are to secure his signature. The Blues were keen to sign Dorgu for their sister club Strasbourg over the summer but an agreement was not reached – though that is unlikely to have put an end to his admiration of the club.

Speaking last season, he insisted that he would like to join the Blues at some stage in his career. He said: “I have been a Chelsea fan for many years, so of course it’s clear that it is a dream. That’s not to say I can’t switch to other teams in the Premier League, but even if things aren’t going so well for them right now, they’re my team.”
