Why is Manuel Ugarte not playing for Man Utd vs Liverpool? Absence explained
Man United fans will have to wait to see their new big-money signing in action.
Manuel Ugarte penned his much-awaited move to Manchester United on Friday evening, but he won’t be involved in Erik ten Hag’s matchday squad to face Liverpool today.
Having chased a defensive midfielder all summer, the Red Devils got their main target across the line while paying Paris Saint-Germain an initial £42million in the process.
Ugarte became United’s fifth permanent signing of the transfer window, joining the Old Trafford outlet alongside Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
Of course, the quartet of new arrivals have already made their United debuts, having featured in both Premier League matches this season.
However, Ugarte will have to wait until after the international break before he’s allowed to pull on the famous red and white shirt of United, given he isn’t involved this afternoon.
The reason is short and simple: Ugarte wasn’t registered in time for the weekend’s fixtures, meaning he’ll be forced to watch from the stands.
Because the Uruguay international wasn’t officially announced until Friday evening, United missed the deadline for the midfield anchor to be involved.
It’s somewhat of a blow for Ten Hag, given United were at times overrun in midfield by Brighton last time out.

His presence will be welcomed when United return to action after the international break, with Ugarte telling the club website upon his arrival: "It is an incredible feeling to join a club of this magnitude; one that is admired all around the world.
“The project that the football leadership discussed with me is extremely exciting; Manchester United is an ambitious club and I am an ambitious player.
"The passion of supporters is something that is very important to me; I know how incredible United fans are and I cannot wait to experience Old Trafford. I'm someone who is so determined to succeed.
“I will sacrifice and give everything for my teammates. Together we will fight to win trophies and reach the level where this club needs to be."

Assuming he stays fit during the next two weeks, it’s looking likely Ugarte’s debut for United will come against Southampton on 13 September.
But any hopes of being eased into action appear unlikely, given United play five matches between mid-September and the end of the month alone.
Fixtures against the likes of Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Porto make up a hectic September schedule for the three-time European champions.
