Arsenal are reportedly working on a late deal to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Sterling hasn't been involved for Chelsea at all this season after manager Enzo Maresca exiled him from the squad.

The winger arrived at Stamford Bridge two seasons ago as part of a £50million deal from Manchester City.

But 24 months later, Sterling is once again on the move, with it looking like he could be about to move from west London to north London.

It's claimed by The Athletic that Sterling, who was a reported transfer target for Manchester United, is closing in on a sensational switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Sterling has been told he isn't part of Maresca's plans and any hopes of enjoying first-team football this season rest with securing a move away from the club.

Speaking on the subject recently, Maresca said: “I am not saying Raheem is not a good player, but I prefer different kinds of winger.

“We have a big squad and it’s impossible to give all of them minutes. If they are looking for minutes it’s better for them to leave. I try to be honest.”

It's claimed Arsenal have opened talks for Sterling, with it believed the Gunners are favouring a temporary loan move instead of a permanent one.

The report states personal terms haven't yet been agreed, but it isn't expected they'll prove a stumbling block anyway.

Sterling is said to be excited about the prospect of linking up with Mikel Arteta - a coach he worked under during the duo's time at Manchester City.

What's more, it once again gives Sterling the chance to not only compete for silverware this season but also make a return to Champions League action.

He'll also bring some welcome Premier League-winning experience to the dressing room, having won four titles during his spell as a City player.

Arsenal's wait to be crowned champions of England went on for another season last time around, with the capital club once again finishing behind Pep Guardiola's side.

Arteta and co. will refocus their title race attention this weekend, when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Emirates for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Following the upcoming international break it's a tasty clash against rivals Tottenham Hotspur, before the ultimate test of their credentials away to City later in the month.
