Giorgi Mamardashvili has penned an emotional message to Valencia fans after his move to Liverpool was confirmed on Tuesday. The 23-year-old will stay with the Spanish club on loan until the end of the season, at which point he will become part of Liverpool's squad.

Liverpool agreed a transfer fee in the region of £29million with Valencia before finalising the deal over the weekend. Mamardashvili underwent a medical in Spain earlier this week and will join on a six-year contract, subject to a work permit and international clearance.

Taking to Instagram after he was unveiled by Liverpool, the Georgia international said there were not enough words to express his gratitude to Valencia fans for their support over the years. He also underlined his desire to keep fighting for the badge until he joins Liverpool next summer.

"I want to start this message with a huge THANK YOU to all of you," he wrote. "Your unconditional support has been a constant source of motivation and joy during my three years in Valencia.

"Every game, every training session and every moment shared with you has been an unforgettable experience that I will always carry in my heart. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for everything you have given me. You have made me feel at home.

"Valencia has been fundamental in my career and has changed my life, which is why I have decided to stay here for another year and give the maximum I can to help the team. We all know that this year is going to be very difficult and so, together as never before, we have to compete and fight until the end."

Liverpool had prioritised the signing of a new goalkeeper with Alisson Becker now the wrong side of 30 and Caoimhin Kelleher facing an uncertain future. The arrival of Mamardashvili next summer will leave the position in safe hands for many years to come.

He impressed at Euro 2024 over the summer, helping Georgia to reach the knockout stages for the first time. He made 21 saves during his country's three group stage matches, the joint-most of any goalkeeper in the tournament’s history.

Mamardashvili has made 102 appearances for Valencia in all competitions and kept 31 clean sheets since joining the club in 2021. He started in both of their opening La Liga fixtures against Barcelona and Celta Vigo and will continue to feature regularly until the end of the campaign.
