Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Leny Yoro as the teenage defender is reportedly expected to snub Liverpool. The Red Devils were widely claimed to have made a bid for the Lille starlet earlier this week.

United are battling with Liverpool and Real Madrid for the 18-year-old’s signature. INEOS are said to have tabled a bid of around £42million but Yoro is still deciding his future.

According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are not being considered by the centre-back. The report claims United are aware that Yoro will only choose between them and Spanish giants Real.

Lille have reportedly accepted United’s offer for the France U21 international. Sky Germany claim that the Red Devils have offered a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.

Yoro's reported lack of interest in joining Liverpool is likely to come as a blow to Arne Slot. According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds had not yet made a bid for the player but were monitoring how his situation developed over the course of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are still widely expected to sign a central defender this summer. Joel Matip departed Anfield following the end of his contract at the end of June. Jarell Quansah’s breakthrough last season was a welcome boost for former boss Jurgen Klopp amid injury difficulties, but Slot will want added strength in the position.

Captain Virgil van Dijk is now 33 and Joe Gomez, 27, has struggled with injuries during his nine years on Merseyside. Ibrahima Konate is Liverpool’s only other centre-back option. Another young defender to battle with Quansah would be an ideal acquisition for new head coach Slot.

Meanwhile, United are desperate to invest in their own defensive ranks this summer. The Old Trafford outfit have pursued Yoro, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

Branthwaite shone for Everton last season and earned a place in England’s preliminary 33-man squad for the European Championship, although did not make the final cut for the tournament. Bayern could relinquish De Ligt with Eric Dier making a permanent move to Bavaria and Jonathan Tah likely to follow the former Tottenham star.

United lost Raphael Varane when the experienced Frenchman’s contract expired at the end of June. According to MEN, United are also taking offers for long-serving centre-back Victor Lindelof to make room and raise funds for new arrivals.
