Manchester United legend Roy Keane was left visibly unimpressed as his former team honoured Manchester City with a guard of honour following their narrow defeat in the Community Shield.

In a nail-biting clash, Manchester United succumbed to a penalty shootout loss to their local rivals after drawing 1-1 in normal time, with misses from Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans allowing City to snatch a 7-6 victory.

Upon City's ascent to the Wembley stands to receive their awards, United players dutifully lined up to applaud them, a move that perplexed talkSPORT's Adrian Durham and Darren Bent who claimed it irked the famously fiery Keane, present as part of ITV's crew.

On air with talkSPORT, Durham commented: "I've just been told it's a nice touch that the United players are making a tunnel for the City players as they head towards the steps to pick up the Community Shield and their medals."

Further probing into Keane's apparent disgust, Durham questioned: "I can't imagine Roy Keane thinking something like that is a nice touch. Could you imagine him being part of a tunnel, applauding the City players?"

Quick to respond, Bent observed: "When I'm looking at Roy down there and I'm surprised he's not kicked the desk over, the ITV desk over because he's there watching."

Durham, keeping a keen eye on Keane's reaction, concluded: "He's got his arms in his pocket and he's not even looking."

United thought they'd won Wembley skirmish when super sub Alejandro Garnacho netted on the 82-minute mark, only for Bernado Silva to doggedly draw City level within a nail-biting seven minutes.

Keane is optimistic about United's prospects in the upcoming Premier League campaign, buoyed by the club's business in the transfer market.

The legendary former captain of the Red Devils is banking on them having a robust season - dependent heavily on their ability to stave off injuries.

Commenting on ITV, Keane asserted: "They key for United is keeping the better players fit. The United squad is pretty strong, if they keep all their players fit I would be pretty upbeat for the start of the season.

"I still think the manager would have wanted to see a bit more steel to see the game out. You would surely expect United to be challenging for the top four if players keep fit."
