UEFA have confirmed that French referee Francois Letexier will take charge of Sunday's Euro 2024 final between England and Spain. Letexier will oversee the crunch clash at Berlin's Olimpiastadion as part of an eight-person team, including officials from France, Poland and Italy.

England meet Spain in the German capital, seeking retribution three years after penalty shoot-out heartbreak in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

Gareth Southgate's side beat the Netherlands 2-1 in Dortmund on Wednesday night, a day after Spain continued their 100 per record with a win by the same scoreline against France.

And Letexier will be the man in the middle, despite a previous expectation that Italy's Daniele Orsato was set to land the role ahead of retirement after the tournament.

The 35-year-old took charge of ten matches across UEFA's club competitions last season and acted as the fourth official for the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

At the start of the campaign, Letexier was the referee for Manchester City's UEFA Super Cup victory against Sevilla in Piraeus, Greece.

He has been an international referee since 2017, officiating 65 UEFA matches throughout his career, and his 66th will be his biggest.

Letexier has been the referee for three matches at Euro 2024, including Denmark vs Serbia and Croatia vs Albania in the group stage.

The Three Lions are among the favourites to win this summer's Euro 2024 tournament and you can get your hands on the brand new Nike home and away kits before the first whistle.

The Frenchman already officiated Spain this summer when they came from behind to thump Georgia 4-1 in the round of 16.

He also acted as the fourth official for the curtain-raiser between hosts Germany and Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Letexier will be flanked by his French assistants Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni in Sunday's final, while experienced Pole Szymon Marciniak will be the fourth official.

Tomasz Listkiewicz, also of Poland, is lined up as assistant reserve referee.

France's Jerome Brisard will be the video assistant referee, with fellow compatriot Willy Delajod appointed VAR assistant and Italian Massimiliano Irrati named VAR support.

Across Letexier's 15 Ligue 1 appearances last season, he handed out an average of 4.47 yellow cards per game but not a single red card.

England have not only reached a second successive European Championships final, but they will once again face a team with six wins from six to their name.

Spain have looked formidable across the last three weeks and will descend on Berlin as favourites. But England will believe the stars have aligned to right the wrongs of that fateful night on home soil three years ago.
