Chelsea 'demand £30m' for player who cost nothing and hasn't started a Premier League game

Chelsea are looking to turn a tidy profit on one of their up-and-coming stars this summer.

Chelsea chief Todd Boehly has reportedly pinned a £30million price tag on Omari Hutchinson with clubs from Germany, England and the Netherlands waiting to pounce. The 20-year-old excelled on loan at Ipswich Town last season but the Tractor Boys face being priced out of a permanent move.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna publicly asked for the board to sign Hutchinson after his 10-goal showing in the Championship last term.

Able to play out wide or as an attacking midfielder, Hutchinson had a stellar reputation in youth football but he was still deemed a gamble when Ipswich agreed a season-long loan for the player after only two senior appearances.

Both games were in the blue of Chelsea, who signed Hutchinson from Arsenal's academy on a free transfer in 2022. One appearance came in the FA Cup and the other in the Premier League, when the youngster emerged from the bench late on against Manchester City.

Despite his lack of top-level experience, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Chelsea are demanding up to £30m for Hutchinson this summer.

The Londoners have decided not to consider another loan spell away from Stamford Bridge as Stuttgart, Ajax, Feyenoord and clubs in the Premier League consider coughing up for a permanent switch.

Ipswich are reportedly preparing a £20m bid of their own, which would obliterate their long-standing transfer record. Hutchinson's future may depend on how early talks go with new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

Maresca had the chance to assess Hutchinson at close quarters last season, when he was in charge of Championship side Leicester City and the player was battling them for promotion at Ipswich. But Chelsea's squad is stacked in attacking midfield and out wide, increasing the likelihood of sales this summer.

Academy graduates are thought to be particularly at risk due to the fact their sales can be accounted for as pure profit. The deadline to meet the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) is June 30.

Trevoh Chalobah has been linked with Manchester United, Armando Broja has admirers all over Europe and Conor Gallagher is also linked to a Stamford Bridge exit. The Blues have already agreed a deal to sign Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian, who will join the club in 2025, and Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to follow when his Fulham contract expires at the end of the month.
