Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to return to football management with a two-year contract at Fenerbahce. The Istanbul-based club narrowly missed out on the title this season and current head coach Ismail Kartal is expected to face the consequences.

Mourinho, famously known as 'The Special One', will be taking up his 11th managerial role, tasked with ending Fenerbahce's decade-long wait for a Super Lig title. Having already achieved success in Portugal, England, Spain, and Italy, Mourinho will be looking to add Turkey to his list of conquests.

Interestingly, Mourinho will be reunited with Fred, a player he signed during his last summer at Manchester United. Despite reports suggesting that Mourinho was never keen on signing the Brazilian midfielder, he eventually approved the move according to The Athletic.

The club spent £52million on Fred, despite Mourinho fearing that if he refused, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward would not agree to sign another midfielder.

In addition to linking up with Fred again, Mourinho will also have the opportunity to work with Edin Dzeko, the current captain of Fenerbahce. The former Manchester City striker has had a prolific career and will provide Mourinho with a strong attacking option.

Other notable players at Fenerbahce include Michy Batshuayi and ex-Rangers winger Ryan Kent. Mourinho was reportedly tempted by a high-paying offer from Saudi Arabia but chose to stay in European football.

Earlier this year, Mourinho openly expressed his eagerness to return to management, stating he felt no need for a break after leaving his last club.

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho revealed: "I am ready to start, sometimes when you end it a club you feel the need of a rest or a think. In this case, one day after I left I was ready to go."

He added, "I am really ready but I don't want to make the wrong choice, but I cannot make the wrong choice, I cannot accept something just because of the feeling and passion to be back. I have to be patient. Is something going to happen in March or April? It is very difficult, my objective is to start next summer."
