Pep Guardiola explained why Phil Foden was "grumpy" with him. (Image: TNT Sports.)
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola revealed that Phil Foden was "grumpy" with him despite scoring a stunning effort from distance in his side's Champions League 3-3 thriller with Real Madrid. The England star had tied the game at 2-2 with an incredible strike, but was later substituted off with an injury.
He limped out of the Bernabeu and is a doubt for City's next Premier League match at home to Luton on Saturday, but the 23-year-old was desperate to play on in Europe and Guardiola explained that his star was less than impressed when brought off for Julian Alvarez.
"A knock," Guardiola explained to TNT Sports, before giving an insight into Foden's view of the late change. "He was grumpy with me for making the substitutions but he made a fantastic goal.

"Next week we have our people, our people are there and we need all of them, the energy to beat the kings of this competition. We will go for it in Manchester with our people.
"We started really well but this is so difficult to come here, they defend really well and the pace they have up front is really amazing. We were a bit anxious with the ball in the first half we lost a lot of balls and when that happens the team are so difficult to play against."

Foden has already alleviated concerns that he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, however, diagnosing himself with a dead leg after a heavy challenge from Eduardo Camavinga.
When asked if he was okay, Foden replied: "Yeah, I hope so. I've got a bit of a bad dead leg but I've got a bit of time now to recover, so hopefully I can."
