Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has reportedly been targeted alongside Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann as candidates to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool next season. The Portuguese coach has been touted as one of European football’s next top managers and continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League.
And Amorim was asked about the prospect of replacing Klopp in the build-up to Sporting’s trip to Rio Ave. However, he produced a prickly response and was seemingly unimpressed by questions about his future.
“I’m not going to dwell on my future, I’ve already said what I had to say.” he told Portuguese outlet Record. “Every time I talk about it the topic comes up again. I just want to beat Rio Ave and then we’ll see.”

It was a similar answer as to when he was quizzed over the prospect of taking charge at Manchester United. In November, Erik ten Hag was under increased pressure and Amorim was once again touted with a move to one of England’s biggest clubs.
"This year I’m not going to go back to the same conversation as last year," Amorim said. "I’m not going to make any kind of comment on these situations. We don’t know the future, it depends on the results. Regarding the future, I have an idea for the end of the season but I won’t say it now. But the results and the context take us to something different. I don’t want to be commenting on these things. I have not been contacted by Manchester United."

Amorim led Braga to Taca da Liga glory in 2020 just weeks into the job, before heading to Sporting where he has transformed them from under-performers to title contenders, spearheaded by Viktor Gyokeres.
If Liverpool are unable to tempt Alonso into replacing Klopp and they turn to Amorim and Nagelsmann, one big advantage of trying to get the Portuguese coach in, is that he would likely be able to take over immediately at the end of the season.
Though compensation would need to be paid to get him out of his Sporting contract, Nagelsmann is leading Germany at Euro 2024 and won’t be available to Liverpool or any other club until their tournament comes to an end - potentially in the final on July 14.
The 23/24 home shirt for Liverpool pays homage to the past of the club, as well as collaborator Nike, with a strong 1970s influence. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch
